Die Casting in 1950s
Before 1950s, die casting technology was used to manufacture zinc alloy parts and bronze parts. Till 1950s, aluminum casting parts and zinc alloy casting parts were applied widely, and bronze casting parts were developed well. Besides, magnesium casting parts was used in navigational instruments and medical devices. Meanwhile, important parts in cameras were made by die casting, which made die casting moved ahead, because of the rise of cameras. At that time, die casting mainly was used to in instruments, small appliances, locks industries, except for national defence industry.
Die Casting in Recent Years
Motorcycle industry was boomed in 1980s, every motorcycle needs aluminum casting parts, which resulted in that casting parts used in motorcycles were the main production output in casting industry.
In 1990s, in the big casting parts market, the auto industry was the most large, because of many variety, strict requirement, high quality, big usage of metal material. From then to early of 21 century, automotive casting parts had a market share by 48-80% in developed countries, even by 90% in Japan. In China, it’s kept in 65%-75%, and rised year after year. In recent years, the development of die casting is closely related with automotive industry. However, the improvement of automotive industry is facing with saving energy, reducing pollution, and other problems. And the improve the design and manufacturing of auto parts, then reduce the weight of cars, which will help resolve these problems. Light material and advanced forming technologies are the two aspects of methods of improving the design of auto parts. For the two aspects, die casting is very competitive. With development of automotive industry, the casting parts used in cars will ask for higher requirements of casting machine and related devices.
