Precision Casting
Precision casting is a general name of a processing that manufacture high precision parts by precision methods, which consists of investment casting, ceramic mold casting, metal mold casting, die casting.
Investment Casting
As a common processing of them, investment casting also is called as dewaxing casting. In the processing, first, utilize suitable material, such as paraffin, to make casting mold. And coat it with fireproof coating and fireproof sands, then dry and harden it. Then melt the inside casting mold, and get a cavity. And roast it to get good hardness, also eliminate the casting mold material. Finally, pour the liquid metal in it, after cooled down, unshelling, removing sands, we will get the finished part.
The accuracy and geometry of precision casting parts is almost equal to the finished parts’s, therefore no need to be machined or few machined. That means that precision casting also is a advanced near-net shaping processing, just like metal injection molding and powder metallurgy.
In ancient China, Sheng-ding of Prince Wu, bronze mirrors, bronze lions was made by precision casting.
Since 1940s, it was applied in industries, and has been developed with a high speed, especially in American and Europe. It is used in almost each range of national industries, especially electricity, petroleum, chemical industry, etc.
With many years of development, investment casting has become a precision manufacturing processing that could make both small parts and large parts. Meanwhile, the accuracy is higher and the roughness is smaller.
