Peiyun Huang – Father of Chinese Powder Metallurgy

Peiyun Huang was born in 1917, in Beijing. He is the founder of Chinese powder metallurgy, and one of creators of Central-South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy that now is Central South University. Research achievements of Peiyun Huang are called as “Huang Powder Pressing Theory”.

1938, worked on technological research metal research institute of Tsinghua University after graduated from Southwest Associated University.

1941, studied in graduate school of American Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

1945, got a doctorate American Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

1946, return to China.

1952, took part in setting Central-South Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

1954, created powder metallurgy speciality.

1985, “powder pressing theory” National Prize for Natural Sciences

1994, become one of first batch of academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering

2010, died in Changsha.

Peiyun Huang is one of major creators of Chinese powder metallurgy. And he has created famous powder pressing theory and sintering theory, and has developed many powder metallurgy materials used in nuke, aerospace, airplanes, electric and other industries.
